Historically, jet pumps have been an overlooked and underutilized technology in the oil and gas industry. Today, the JJ Tech improved jet pump design, combined with a number of other technical innovations has created a wide range of new and exciting jet pump applications.
Several key performance parameters differentiate the JJ Tech jet pump process from conventional artificial lift systems. Most significantly – there are no downhole moving parts, it is not affected by hole angle or “cork screw”, it won’t gas lock and it is able to lift sand. The equipment in its current configuration is very efficient as an artificial lift system – something that has always been a problem for conventional jet pump systems.
This new JJ Tech Jet pumping system has been successfully deployed in a variety of oil and gas wells around the world for permanent pumping installations as well as fluid and solids clean out.. Current well deployment categories include dewatering mature gas wells, dewatering conventional horizontal gas wells, dewatering CBM and shale gas wells and producing oil from vertical and horizontal wells.
A significant area of concern when using an artificial lift system to dewater a gas well is the system’s ability to handle any influx of a gas phase. Jet pumps are unaffected by gas entrainment, other than a potential for some efficiency loss.
A requirement of any jet pump installation is surface pumping equipment. To better perform this task, high pressure diaphragm pumps are now being used in these installations. Ultra-Flo Production Systems with high pressure diaphragm pumps are now available as surface equipment that greatly decreases environmental and maintenance issues traditionally associated with plunger type pumps. These units are closed systems with cartridge type check valves and diaphragms for ease of maintenance and lower operating costs.
Coupled with a new dual string coiled tubing technology, a JJ Tech jet pump completion is available which allows the jet pump to be run in hole or retrieved with a single coiled tubing unit operation.
